Heartlands Business Forum, established in 1994, represents over 3000 large and small businesses in Birmingham, the Midlands and beyond and is the largest body of its kind in Europe. Although the traditional catchment area covers 2,350 acres, membership is open to any Midlands-based company, and numbers of non-Birmingham members are a significant proportion of the total and may benefit from the dialogue and wide range of benefits which membership brings. Its objectives include ambitions to create prosperity for its members by providing opportunities to inter-trade between member companies - hence the production of this website, and to encourage inward investment into East Birmingham, providing local jobs and training opportunities for local people. Partnership with the local community is seen as a long-term investment in the economic future of the area. The Forum is keen to support major developments in Heartlands and the surrounding area, such as Millenium Point in Digbeth which will hold its grand opening ceremony in the Autumn of 2001. Membership
of Heartlands is open to all interested companies, whether they employ
2 or 2,000. The current Heartlands Business Forum Chairman is Nick Schiller,
Executive Manager for Manufacture and Planning at LDV, and the Business
Forum Board is open to re-election every year at the AGM. Its members
represent a cross-section of large and small businesses, and include some
of the major regional and national companies, Cap Gemini, Smith Stone
and Knight, LDV, and Smith and Nephew. Educational institutions such as
Heartlands High School and City College are also on the Board, along with
a number of co-opted members who offer advice and expertise in their professional
fields.
